CEO & founder at ECAMS: a global company specialised in aesthetic hands-on training, surgical, non-surgical & businesses

This picture was taken just 10 days before the news about Italy covid-19 outbreak catches worldwide attention. Since then it has went out of control. Just want to assure to everyone who is reading this article that we all managed to dodge the ball and no one is infected from that trip. When COVID-19 arrives in Europe on 24 Jan in Bordeaux and Paris, no one seems to be feared by the virus, I remember travelling to Paris to attend IMCAS just 5 days later and at that time, everyone is still doing the normal social activities, little did we expect that this invisible virus becomes the global pandemic and has affected the economy and the lives of every individual. It is natural to be fearful when you are dealing with the unknown. However as a leader or business owner, this is the time you need to manage the fear, crisis and challenges calmly and most importantly instill confidence to your team that we will get through these hard times together.Being so far away from Singapore, plus all my family members and close friends are there, I have been following and reading closely on the situation there. I have to say, once again I am impressed with how Singapore leaders and Singapore businesses reacted to this pandemic event, and I think there is a lot we can all learn from so that we can step up to the challenges for the clinic when the worst hit us.I will break down my take on the cause of action into 2 main categories.·    Clinic stay open for business·     Order by government to stop business for unknown period of timeBelow are a list of areas what I feel that the clinic should have in place, but you can tailor this according to your clinic’s size and the services you are providing and use this as a guide and if you have more, please add on to the list by leaving a comment.Open for business·     Office health and safety protocols should be updated and brief to all staffs (everyone working in the clinic, especially the cleaner). At this moment you need to ensure that you are taking care of every staff that is working for you, you need to show that their health and safety is as important as the patients.·     Step up your frequency of hand washing and hand sanitizing.·     Sanitize work areas, door handles, work counters, waiting areas regularly.·     All staff should be wearing gloves at all times.·     If you are using iPAD or hardcopy forms to check-in patient, be sure to wipe the device, writing board, stylus or pen with disinfectant wipes before you pass it on to the next patient.·     Try to move your consultation online with recording function so as to protect yourself for legal reason. (you can check out on ECAMS virtual interactive consultation if you want to use the service)·     Make it a point to call all patients prior to their visit to do a pre-screening regardingo  their travelling history in the last 14 days,o  if they are in contact with someone that have positive result,o  if their temperature is normal or have any flu like symptomso  if they are taking any immunosuppressant drugs·     Place hand sanitizers at the counter or near to the entrance for customers’ use and also around the clinic especially waiting area.·     All staffs to wear masks in order to limit the spread of viruses and bacteria in the clinic.·     Take patient’s temperature before they enter the clinic.·     All are encouraged to get medical help specialise in COVID-19, if patients or staff has flu like symptoms, don’t try to treat them yourself.·     Space out the appointment so there are not too many patients waiting to see you at one time. Ensure to have 5 minutes in between patient so that staff has enough time to disinfect the area before receiving the next patient.·     Confine your waiting area to one area rather than a few areas and schedule the appointment to one at a time.·     Send out message or communicate with your patients that your clinic is taking extra vigilant to ensure their health and safety is your number 1 priority.·     Sell more home care kit so that they can cut down the visits to your clinic. They can order products through phone or online and give them free delivery. ·   Your clinic might have lesser patients coming in, so take this opportunity to train your staff and re-train yourself. (ECAMS will be implementing our virtual interactive training in operation and procedures soon)·    Take this opportunity to implement projects that you can help to run your clinics more effectively and provide a better service, or implement new procedures that you have learned.Close for business:·    Sell more home care kit. Allow to take order through phone or online and organise your staff or yourself to post the product at no additional cost to patient.·     Charge a fee and move your consultation online with recording function so as to protect yourself for legal reason. (you can check out on ECAMS virtual interactive consultation if you want to use the service)·    Take this opportunity to train your staff and re-train yourself. (ECAMS will be implementing our virtual interactive training in operation and procedures soon)·    Take this opportunity to implement projects that you can help to run your clinics more effectively and provide a better service, or implement new procedures that you have learned. On my end what are the changes I made?As for my business and personal impact, we have take a very difficult decision to move all courses to a later date and we are creating and implementing new ways to adopt to the current situation. All staffs work from home and we have daily virtual meeting and sometimes hourly just to keep each other on the loop and also for mental supports to each other that we are not alone. In this way my staffs feel like they are almost working next to one another. We also take this opportunity to implement more projects to serve our delegates better and also re-train ourselves so that we can be bounced back immediately when the times are better. As for my home, school are cancelled so I have my 2 kids constantly 24 hours with me, which is a blessing but at times we drive each other crazy. Kids have get into the habit of being extra hygiene and clean. We are taking our Vitamin C and glutathione supplements daily and I am getting my REVIV IV infusion regularly to boost my immune system. I had also decided to take control of my own health and had sent my DNA for testing with REVIV genetics, and I am waiting for the results. I have also limit my visits to grocery store and I have stopped my kids to go on or having playdates, but I do take them out for some fresh air. I have been doing workout from home anyway, so now I just set 30 min a day aside to do workout with my kids. No hugging and kissing each other when meet up with friends, this is not in my culture anyway, so it is quite easy for me to revert back to the usual, but hand shaking is an effort to stop my reflex system.I am also helping our own aesthetic community and answering any questions on my social media platform and giving them ideas and advice on how the challenges they are facing and how they can work through this period. I don’t have a magic wand, but sharing thoughts and worries and giving motivating advice is empowering. This is the time we need to empower and help out each other. We will get through this together if each and everyone in the community play their part. Love and kindness will defeat COVID-19.#covid19 #aestheticbusiness #ecams #ecamstraining #womeninbusiness #aesthetictraining #overcomecovid19 #helpingeachother #togetherwedefeatcovid19
