M14-3 ABC facelift with power assisted and hydrodissection

  • Course level: All Levels

New perspectives in facial rejuvenation occur at a rapid pace. You know how to do a facelift, right? You are comfortable with the deep planes of the face and understand the SMAS anatomy? But if you are still feeling you can learn more, the ABC Facelift course provides insight into a unique procedure that addresses both laxity, and soft tissue and bony volume losses in a simple approach that you can easily reproduced. The ABC Facelift combines:

A. Anatomic and regenerative fat grafting for volume replacement and restoration of the functional matrix;

B. Baraf elevation with power hydro-dissection of skin flaps; and

C. Cautery elevation of SMAS-Platysma flap with simple deep plane access to achieve natural and beautiful results.

The ABC Facelift process provides unique patient benefits, including faster healing, fewer complications, more predictable outcomes, and ongoing regenerative effects on the facial tissues that actually delay facial decay.

This module can be taken individually.
It is recommended that you complete all 3 modules of the M14 series to ensure an in-depth level of understanding.

Dr. Steven Cohen is an internationally recognized plastic surgeon, inventor, artist, entrepreneur and lifelong student. He is in private practice in La Jolla California and a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego. Initially interested in cardiovascular surgery, Dr. Cohen trained in general surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and did a two year fellowship in cardiac surgery at the National Institutes of Health. While at NIH, Dr. Cohen saw a magnificent program on the new field of Craniofacial Surgery and changed his career path. After completing general surgery at Dartmouth and a plastic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Cohen went on to finish his training with a fellowship in Craniofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery at UCLA under the direction of Dr. Henry Kawamoto. During his career in Craniofacial Surgery, Dr. Cohen invented the first commercially distributed internal craniofacial distraction device, which has been distributed by Stryker since 1997 and holds a patent on the first resorbable distraction device (Macropore Biosurgery, now owned by Medtronic). He performed the first neonatal mandibular distraction to prevent tracheostomy in a one week old infant with Pierre Robin (1997), the first internal Monobloc Distraction (1994) and Facial Bipartition with Distraction (1995), all three of which have become the standard-of-care in the US and abroad. Dr. Cohen and his team were the third group in the world to perform endoscopic craniosynostosis surgery and helped launch Macropore Biosurgery, an innovative company making bioresorbable devices. In 2000, Dr. Cohen along with Dr. Ralph Holmes and Christopher Calhoun founded LeonardoMD, one of the earliest cloud computing companies in medicine, sold to Azalea Medical in 2016. Dr. Cohen has always loved innovation and in 2004, sensing that fractionation of laser light would be the next disruption, bought the 14th fractional laser (Fraxel) produced by Reliant, now owned by Valiant. Since 2002, Dr. Cohen has concentrated his efforts in the field of regenerative medicine and aesthetics, performing the 3rd through 11th adipocyte derived stem cell treatment in the world, and most recently (2016-2019) co-inventing several new disposable systems for fat grafting and nanofat production (Tulip Medical, Millenium Medical and Lipocube, Inc.). Dr. Cohen has a provisional patent on his technique of anatomic and regenerative fat grafting, ITR2, Injectable Tissue Replacement and Regeneration and recently submitted a patent for new tools for hydro-dissection of subcutaneous tissue during facelift surgery. Dr. Cohen has been named as one of the best plastic surgeons in America by the US News and World Report, Castle Connolly and Best Doctors, Inc. for numerous years. He has been voted 10 times as one of the best plastic surgeons in San Diego by the San Diego Medical Society. He has served on the editorial boards of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal, the Annals of Plastic Surgery, and presently is on the editorial boards of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and the Journal of Aesthetic Surgery. He has written over 170 publications and edited two textbooks in Plastic Surgery, one of which, on aesthetic fillers has been translated into Korean and Mandarin. Dr. Cohen has been an invited lecturer, demonstrating surgical techniques throughout the world at centers such as Johns Hopkins and Stanford University Medical Center as well as in leading aesthetic and academic centers in Japan, Korea, Russia, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, France, Colombia and Italy to name a few. His work in facial aesthetics and most recently his new concept of fat grafting, which is based on anatomic placement and regeneration of decayed tissues has received worldwide interest. He received the Tiffany Award from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for his work showing progressive improvement in facial volume after Injectable Tissue Replacement and Regeneration, a new standardized fat grafting technique in combination with his unique approach of skin elevation and extended deep plane, SMAS facelift. In addition to his medical career, Dr. Cohen is an artist, and his paintings are in nearly 100 private collections. In 2015 Dr. Cohen had a solo exhibition in Paris at the Gallery Beres. He continues to show and sell his work, donating the proceeds to charity.
